The seventeenth annual "A Day for Me" program, a free women's health seminar, is scheduled for Sunday, March 25th, from Noon to 4:00 p.m., at Magruder Hospital’s Conference Center. Registration for the event begins at noon in the hospital main lobby. Magruder Hospital, the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary and Business and Professional Women’s Club are sponsoring this year's seminar and chairperson is Melinda Cooley, a member of the Magruder Auxiliary. The theme for this year’s seminar is, “The International Experience.” The keynote speaker for the event is Margie Klaehn, RN Surgical Nurse at Magruder Hospital. Margie has been at Magruder since 2003 and was at Providence Hospital prior to that. She has been on 5 mission trips to India, the Dominican Republic, Jordan and China. Margie is an EMT and has been with the Lakeside Fire Department going on 20 years. She and her husband Bill live in Marblehead with their 3 children. The agenda for the day will begin with lunch, compliments of the Fulton Street Café, with a brief welcome. Participants will then be given the opportunity to sit in on three educational break-out sessions. The break-out presenters are: Evelyn Pajak, International Travel Tips, Jonas Bonnell, International Cooking Demonstration, and Mike Schenk, Comparison of Old World & New World Wines. On Monday, March 5th at 9 a.m. in the Magruder Conference Center, the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary will host a free breakfast program to welcome the newest Auxilians, as well as guests and interested members. Currently the Auxiliary has over 250 members and the volunteers donate approximately 11,000 hours of service to the hospital each year. Come learn about the Auxiliary and what it does for the hospital and the community. Auxiliary members help with two major fundraisers for the hospital: the Charity Ball and the Auxiliary Golf Classic. They also provide healthcare scholarships to local students, host A Day For Me, the annual women’s health seminar, help with hospital book fairs and uniform sales and volunteer in a variety of capacities throughout the hospital. No matter the level of interest or experience, the Auxiliary has something to offer everyone. The Multiple Sclerosis Support Group will meet on Tuesday, March 6th at 6:30pm. There will be a program on mood changes and MS. This support group is for anyone whose life has been touched by MS and is an excellent way for patients, caregivers and family members to connect with others to share information and resources. Magruder Hospital’s monthly Cancer Support Group will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd at 12:30 pm in the Conference Center. This support group is for anyone who has been impacted by cancer. Magruder Hospital will offer its monthly Cholesterol (Total/LDL/HDL/Triglycerides), Blood Pressure and Glucose Screening for $16 on the 2nd Thursday of every month starting at 1pm. The Ottawa County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be facilitating an Autism support group on the first Thursday each month at 6:30pm. This group is for anyone who has been touched by Autism and is free and open to the public. For more information, call 419-898-0400. Registration is not required. Local certified instructor Lisa Seckler will offer two strength training classes in the Magruder Conference Center every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 – 6:30pm. Cost for the class is $4 per session. This class is a full body workout with lots of stretches to combat soreness. Participants use hand weights, elastic bands and tubing, stretch strips and their own body weight to whip those muscles into shape. Strength training helps prevent age-related muscle loss, in addition to keeping bones and metabolism strong. Participants may join the classes anytime.
