Free Wigs for Cancer Patients

Magruder Hospital and the American Cancer Society (ACS) have teamed up to offer a new resource in Ottawa County for women undergoing cancer treatment. The Wig Bank, now located in Magruder's Oncology Department, is a program run by the ACS that offers free wigs to women undergoing cancer treatment. "I am excited the ACS approached us about becoming a site for their Wig Bank program," said Laura Muller, Manager of Magruder's Oncology Department. "It is a great program and available to every woman in the area undergoing treatment, not just Magruder's oncology patients. Wigs can be very expensive and you are not always sure what you are getting. Offering the wigs for free, and allowing women to come in and try them on to see which one is best for them, is something we really feel good about bringing to the area," said Muller. Participants need to schedule an appointment by calling Kathy Almendinger at 419-734-3131 ext 3729. When a woman comes in for her appointment, she can choose from a variety of sizes, colors and styles and volunteers will be on hand to help with the selection and practical advice.
